Lifespan is Rhode Island’s largest health system and private employer, consisting of Rhode Island Hospital and its Hasbro Children’s Hospital, The Miriam Hospital, and Bradley Hospital – teaching hospitals of The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University – as well as Newport Hospital and Gateway Healthcare. Based in Providence, the $2.4-billion, not-for-profit organization is renowned for its cardiac, cancer, neurosciences, orthopedics and pediatrics, among many other specialties. Its teaching hospitals are among the top recipients in the country of research funding from the National Institutes of Health. In all, the hospitals receive more than $80 million in external research funding annually.
